Hillsdale Community Health Center (HCHC), in conjunction with The Hillsdale Surgical Group (HSG), offers laparoscopic, adjustable gastric banding, the Lap-Band System (www.lapband.com) bariatric procedure, as part of a multidisciplinary approach to the treatment of obesity.
Lap-Band Surgery Overview
The lap-band is a silicone ring that has an inflatable inner band. The band transitions to a silicone tube that connects the inflatable section to an access port, which allows post-operative adjustments in the band tightness. The band works by tightening around the upper part of the stomach, which decreases hunger and the amount of food that can be eaten.
The lap-band procedure is minimally invasive, adjustable, and reversible. Laparoscopic surgery offers patients improved outcomes that may include less postoperative pain, a shorter hospital stay, and fewer infections. Patients recover overnight in a deluxe private suite.
HCHC lap-band patients receive thorough multidisciplinary education and screening prior to surgery as well as follow-up after surgery to insure success with the band. HCHC Lap-Band Surgery Program has a special lap-band support group open to those that have had lap-band surgery or are thinking of having the lap-band surgery. This group is facilitated by the lap-band surgery coordinator and dietitian and the program’s psychologist. The group provides patients with psychological and nutritional support to help ensure successful outcomes. We also have an online support group through facebook.com.
